Outdoor Recreation
With over 5,500 acres, residents and visitors alike can enjoy hiking, trail running, biking and horseback riding trails at William B. Umstead State Park. The park has three lakes, which offer canoeing, rowboats and fishing almost all year round.
Maybe you enjoy boating, fishing, hiking trails, camping and nature walks. Jordan Lake State Park is sure to satisfy all your outdoorsy desires. With over 4500 acres of woodlands and almost 14,000 acres of shoreline, Jordan Lake is the year-round outdoor place to enjoy nature and learn about conservation efforts.
Museums
Recognized as a leading art museum in the South, the NCMA has been around since 1947 and grants free admission to its permanent collection. It houses over 5000 years of art and an amphitheater for outdoor performances. Sitting on 164 acres, the NCMA is a must-see attraction in the Triangle.
The NCMNS is the largest institution of its kind in the South East and one of the nation’s most amazing museums about the natural world. Affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, North Carolina’s most-visited museum offers free general admission.
NCMH is a downtown monument to all that is North Carolina, where you’ll discover fascinating secrets and hidden gems from our state's past. The Smithsonian affiliate houses the NC Sports Hall of Fame and a rotation of special exhibits from local artists, musicians and more. General admission is free.
The Nasher Museum of Art is located on Duke University’s campus. It opened in 2005 and hosts a variety of collections, including over 3300 items of Pre-Columbian art. With an annual attendance of 100,000 visitors, it is a must see in the Triangle.
Events
First Fridays is a monthly event presented by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance and showcases the arts and creative community in Raleigh. From 6-9 pm on the first Friday of every month, the public enjoys a free event complete with exhibitors from local art galleries and museums.
The creative, yummy and southern cuisine food offerings alone are enough to make visitors travel from miles around to enjoy this one of kind annual state fair held in October. The NC State Fair welcomes over a million visitors every year.
Entertainment Venues
The PNC Arena seats almost 20,000 fans for both basketball and hockey games. It serves as the home for the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) and the NC State men’s and women’s basketball teams.
